Year 6 have had a wonderful start to the school year with our World War Two topic. The
children have really enjoyed learning about historical figures who lived during the war,
including Anne Frank, British evacuees and world leaders on both sides.
We had an incredibly informative trip to Downs Junior School’s real air raid shelters,
where we toured the shelters and imagined what it felt like to be part of an air raid. We
were lucky enough to meet with several elderly volunteers who lived through the war in
Brighton, who told us many fascinating stories about evacuation and wartime life.
We’ve also worked hard this term in our Maths on our methods for calculation, and in
our writing on composing stories where the main character travels back in time to our
favourite periods in history
