One of our own children was shortlisted in the Storytrail writing competition. The brief was that the story had to include a bench. The author and the toy that inspired the text are pictured.
Here is the winning story:
Tigrelle and the Scarlet Scarf
Once upon a time there was a young tiger called Tigrelle (stripy, cute and kind). She was sitting on a bench on Brighton beach. Where the seat and the back met, she saw a tiny opening. She looked in and, surprised, she fell into a cave. It was dim but she could see a stone table, on it was a scarf (scarlet for your information). She put it on, she felt tingly, and her tail twitched. I want to go home, Tigrelle thought as she started to dig. The ground was softer than she expected. It seemed like the scarf had given her the power to dig really quickly. She dug up and soon she shot out of the ground. She was going so fast she flew! Scared of hitting the ground, she hovered. It was amazing, she could fly with the scarf on! She was pleased she had found a superpowered scarlet scarf. Tigrelle was dirty from the cave, so she decided to have a swim. But when she went to the sea her paws didn’t sink in. She figured out that she could walk on water with the scarf on. (Walking on water is very useful for fishing so she could feed herself and her friends like Timothy and Tigra.) Imagine how many people she could help with these new powers. She always took good care of the scarf forever and never told anyone about the cave. But every time she passed a bench, she checked to see if there was a secret cave beneath it, and one day she found another one…

This week we went to visit the new housing development at the old Hollingbury Library site. The children got a chance to look around the flats. We spotted our school and looked for local sites from the roof gardens. The building is ecological and we learnt about the solar panels and the heating system. The developers also talked to the children all about how the flats have been designed and built and what jobs were needed to create them. Perhaps some future careers for our children in there....

The wonderful new year one and two classes spending the afternoon utilising our amazing outdoors. The children focussed on developing team work, exploration of the environment, balancing, creativity and expression and physics of water.

As we start the new school year it is so lovely to see everyone back at school. We are however missing the smiling face of our 'School Crossing Patrol Officer'.
