Final School Games Challenge!

This week’s sport is… Old Skool Sports Day

We have reached the final week of the Specsavers ‘Virtual’ Sussex School Games, and we’re wrapping up with some Old Skool Sports Day challenges. Complete all four challenges and log your top scores. There are suggested adaptations for all of the challenges. The four challenges are

  • Challenge 1 – The Welly Wang
  • Challenge 2 – Skittle Alley
  • Challenge 3 – Hopping Mad
  • Challenge 4  Egg and Spoon Race

This week’s Training prize is for…. Fancy Dress

Every week there is a £50 Amazon voucher to give away, to somebody training hard and displaying the characteristics of a top athlete.

The final week is all about having as much fun as possible, so it’s time for Fancy Dress! Can you dress up as your favourite sports star to do your challenges? Or maybe your favourite superhero or literary character? We have loved seeing families taking part and having fun together, why not get the whole family in fancy dress? You could even try to involve your pets! The possibilities are endless! Show us your best fancy dress in your training drawing, photo or video!

Share your training pictures and videos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok with the hashtag #SussexSchGames for your chance to win.

Note: Please ensure that you are following the rules when it comes to age restrictions on social media. Photos/Videos must be shared from an appropriate account. It is strong advised that content is shared from a parent/carer’s account, or from a school account with parental permission. Photos/Videos from underage accounts will not be eligible for this prize.

Complete each activity for each day of the month. Remember to make an exercise harder add more repetitions of each exercise or to make it easier reduce the repetitions. For an extra challenge you could also repeat the activity at least 3 times a day. Always remember to have a warm-up before any activity.

TopYa National School Games Active Championships 

The School Games Active Championships is a national activity campaign to help young people across the UK to #StayInWorkOut using the video-based platform powered by TopYa!. New challenges will be available every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to engage with, with the aim for pupils to develop their skills and get active..

Primary and secondary-aged children can join the School Games Active Championships at any time with free active challenges being set via videos within a designated School Games version of the TopYa! Active app. All they need to do is download the app, register as a player and type in the Invite Code 23880.

Children practise the challenges, then submit their best video using a mobile device to receive personal coaching feedback from the TopYa! team of experienced virtual coaches. Points are earned for each video submitted, leading to climbing leaderboards and winning prizes!

The TopYa! Active app is committed to online safety and meets rigorous COPPA and GDPR safeguarding standards. No one can communicate within the app. All children can do to communicate with one another is give each other a virtual ‘high-five’, which functions like a social media ‘like’.

Video content is suitable for young people of all ages and abilities, with regular submissions from National Governing Bodies of Sport.

How do I get involved?

Children:

  1. Download the TopYa! Active app from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Create your Player (child) account
  3. When prompted to enter an Invite Code enter 23880 and then choose Primary or Secondary School League based on which type of school you attend

If you are under 13 years old, ask your parent or guardian set up the TopYa! Active account first, and then create player (child) accounts afterwards.

Parents:

Create your own account, and then create your young person's account(s). Skip the invite process and simply tell them their username or let them use your device to submit challenges. (They need your permission to use the app if they are younger than 13). All activity on the app is COPPA and GDPR compliant, providing a safe online space for children to complete skill challenges, upload videos and get thoughtful virtual coaching feedback.

Follow these steps:

  1. Download the TopYa! Active app from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Create your Parent account
  3. When prompted to enter an Invite Code enter 23880 and then choose Primary or Secondary School League based on which type of school your child attends
  4. Then create your kid(s) account(s)
  5. Let them work on the activities on their own device or film and upload videos from your device on their behalf!

    Home Pentathlon

    The Home Pentathlon is a fun way for families to take part in adapted Sportshall Athletics events within their home environment. 

    To take part in the Home Pentathlon follow the guidance provided below. Once you have taken part and recorded your results challenge other families to have a go!     To enter and record your results:

    Laptop:

    Download the spreadsheet below and enter results for 5 events for up to 6 people.

    Phone:

    1. Download the Google Sheets app on your phone.

    2. Follow this link and Make a Copy of the sheet Google Sheet  .

    3. Press the button with the three dots (ο ο ο), then Share & export and then ‘Make a Copy’ (this is really important so only you can see your results) and then enter your results.   

    4. You can even share your copy of the Google sheet with your friends and enter your own results on the same sheet.

    Once completed, share your results files (please include your County) with sportshall.athletics@gmail.com for entry in our Virtual Leaderboard.

    We encourage everyone in the household to take part in the Home Pentathlon (where possible) but all activity must take place under adult supervision, ensuring;

    – All surfaces are clear, dry and free from debris. 

    – Sufficient space is cleared around all activity – ensure there are no obstacles around activity.

    – If the suggested preferred adaptations can’t be used a safe/sensible alternative is considered.

    PE Home Exercises 'Reboot' 

    Keep fit during the lockdown with FREE sports and activities through 'Youtube' and local Sussex sports providers 

    Active Sussex have teamed up with REBOOT, providing young people and their families access to local sports and activities, directly into their homes.
    The list below shows the schedule of activities that you can now access. Although these have been intitially designed with teenagers in mind I am certain that many of our Carden pupils are still able to give these activities ago helping them to work towards completing 60 active minutes everyday...even in 'Lock down'!  

    Monday - Mellow Mondays with Defiant Sports. Time: 11.00-11.30

    30 minute session for 12 weeks. To incorporate sensory circuits, yoga, relaxation, mindfulness etc. Providing varied content over 12 weeks, with extra
    explanation and time allowed to ensure those less able can fully participate. Equipment required will be found around the home eg. Water bottle instead of hand weights. All home based exercise.

    Tuesday - Session 1 - Fit and Fab Families. Time 9.00-9.30

    Sessions aimed at families, teaching basic boxing techniques and standing core exercises. The sessions will also provide you with equipment free HIIT/conditioning classes.

    Wednesday - Sports and Family Fun with Defiant Sports. Time 11.00-11.30.

    'Welcoming Wednesdays’ 30 minute session for 12 weeks. Introducing you to adapted sports, encompassing game play and skill building. Fun for all the family! Equipment required will be found around the home eg. Water bottle instead of hand weights. All home based exercise.

    Friday - Session 1 - Up-Grade Training and Therapy Ltd: Kickboxing, Mixed Martial arts and Fitness. Time 10.00-10.30

    Kickboxing, fitness and Mixed Martial Arts lessons. Young people would need a clear space of no less than 3x3 metres, loose fitting clothes and plenty of water. Given the nature of the online, non-contact service, equipment would not be necessary.

    Saturday - Session 2 - Tic-Tac Skate School. Time: 16.00-16.30

    Providing comprehensive courses in skateboarding, from the complete beginner to expert we can cover an agenda to suit any budding
