Big School Camp 2021

As you will know, Carden held its first ‘Big Camp’ on Wednesday and Thursday 30th June/1st July and it was a huge success. The event kicked off with the children set the challenge of putting up the huge tents that they would later be sleeping in – no easy task even for a seasoned camper! After lots of head scratching, perseverance and teamwork, the camp was all set for the night ahead.

The children were then put into 4 groups and embarked on a carousal of activities that aimed to help them develop some key life skills: First Aid, team work, Bush craft and shelter building. All the children worked really hard and demonstrated lots of our learning journey characters along the way.

After dinner, everyone sang around the campfire and took part in a big camp fire sing song which included marsh mellows and hot chocolate before retiring to bed after an exhausting first day. Bed time was certainly an ‘interesting’ experience and some children (and adults) got more sleep than others, but as the new day dawned, many were really proud of either having spent their first night away from their family or their first night in a tent.

After a hearty breakfast, day 2 began with everyone having to put down their tents and pack away. Again, no easy task!

This was followed by an orienteering task before lunch and to finish, children were faced with some tricky team challenges that involved getting quite wet.

By the end of the camp, everyone was very exhausted but had a huge smile on their face, no doubt helped by the fact that the weather stayed kind to us and the sun was shining.

Thanks to all the Carden staff that took part and gave up time away from their families as well as Gary, Tara and Ian from the Big Camp for their fantastic organisation. Finally, thank you to all the Carden children who took part and made this such a huge success. We are very proud of you all.
