Winter term update: Year 1

a group of photos of year one pupils

Year 1 have had a very busy term learning lots of new and interesting things. Our topic this term was Castles. Not only did the children design and build their very own castles, with battlements and a working drawbridge, they also learned about why and where castles were built and who might have lived in them. The children were very interested to learn all about the year 1066 and who, eventually, became king of England.

Maths this term has been lots of fun. We took our learning outside to search for as many 2d shapes as we could. We learned about the names and properties of both 2d and 3d shapes and then had a go at sorting them.

In English, the children were inspired by our model text based on the books Leaf Man and Stick Man. They planned and wrote their fabulous stories independently – we were blown away by how amazing they all did.

We hope that all our families have a fabulous Christmas and for that those who don’t celebrate it we hope you have a wonderful break. We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
